Birthday Girl!

Screen Shot 2013-08-05 at 21.32.33

Oh my gosh! Time flies so quickly! I’m turning 19 today and I almost feel like I turned 18 yesterday whereas it was… well, a year ago :p! I must say that it’s quite a weird thing to think that it’s actually my last “teen” year, before the “big” 20, but that’s alright, that’s just the way things are supposed to happen, isn’t i?! ^^

And I don’t know about you, but every year, for every single birthday, I’ve got kind of a flashback of all these past years that makes me realise how lucky I am! Because even though it’s true to say that my family can’t really be granted this beautiful word that is “a family”, I feel extremely lucky when I think of my friends… whether they are the good old friends I’ve known like… forever or the ones I’ve met more recently! They’re all so very important to me, they are people as sweet as honey who managed to leave some of their sticky sweetness in my life, but above all… in my heart ❤!

I wish I could have spent this B-day with both English and French friends, so I’m not dedicating this post to myself (though it’s my birthday), but to these amazing people… all of them, whether they are British, French, Dutch or Australian! They all mean so much to me and they all have such a big part of my heart, that I honestly don’t really care where I’ll spend my birthday, because I know that whether it’s here or there, they’re in my heart… so wherever I might celebrate turning a year older, they’ll be with me and this is all that TRULY matters!

So here’s to them! I LOVE YOU GUYS!!!! ❤❤❤

With this, let’s…

Keep holding on to what and who we love & enjoy the ride of life 😉

MUCH LOVE ❤

xoxo

Using French makes it posh !

Yes it does!!! English may be THE international language …BUT apparently our dear British neighbors tend to use French to be a little bit more preppy!

“Excusez-moi, have you said thé or café? Will you take some potatoes purée?” You see? French is everywhere! “Oh, and of course, bon appétit!”

These are only a few examples but this is really nice to see or rather to hear that our language is quite a big part of the so admired Shakespeare’s language. But come on guys, French is the Molière’s one!!!!!!

I really feel comfortable when it happens. It makes me feel like I’m at home again. It is nothing really but when you’re abroad for a certain time, it’s always pleasing to hear or read a few words, or even to see some cultural references of your homeland. It gives you the impression to belong to the place, even though you’re just a foreigner here. In a word, it can cheer you up when you need it!

I hope you have already experienced that and if not, I hope you do, because then you can’t be happier, you’re like on cloud 9! No joke, you’ll see !!!!

But whatever you do, don’t forget… Keep holding on to what you love & enjoy the ride of life 😉

xoxo or today, I should say Bisous, Bisous

Lost on an island… how ridiculous!!!

LOST… Believe it or not, but yes, I was lost on Hayling yesterday. I always knew that my sense of direction had never been good, but being lost on this island is really pathetic!

What’s even more pitiful is that I had a map (and it’s not like I like blaming myself for everything, but this map was very simple, even a baby could have understood it!). I had checked everything on Sunday, I had drawn a “beautiful” map on a “beautiful” sheet of paper, but…

Hayling Island is not huge, it is the opposite of “huge”, most of people have never heard of it… It is so tiny, there is almost nothing here apart from the empty beaches, the few houses and the remaining shops! It is not a desert island, no, or at least not yet!

I’m not really gifted, I know, you can say that, I won’t blame you! Fortunately, I hadn’t planed to spend my six months in London :s !!! Can you imagine the disaster, the chaos it would have been? No actually, don’t try to imagine anything! That’s scary!!!!!

I really felt stupid! Have you ever been lost in such a small place? (Even if I doubt that there is one person more stupid, I will nevertheless simplify my feeling) So you probably know what I mean when I say “STUPID”. You truly feel like you’re the worst of all the idiots in the world!

With this, all I need to say now is “Make sure your map is really good (No I mean it, nothing’s better than a very good map. In short, don’t try to draw anything but don’t pretend to be a specialist of direction neither!) but above all, make sure you have your brain before going anywhere!”

That’s probably all for today, unless I have the strength to write something when I come back tonight… So keep holding on to what you love & enjoy the ride of life 😉

xoxo

PS : I found my way back 😉

English food is not such a “taboo”!

© Adelina Comas-Herrera and A Canterbury Food Love Story, 2013

Let’s talk a little bit about the English food!!! I think it’s quite appropriate, right?

Oh come on, I already read on your lips “this is not something we’re supposed to talk about”. Actually, THIS shouldn’t be such a taboo! Believe it or not, but there are really good things to eat over here. Ok, I admit that some of their cooked meats as well as their jelly or whatever may be pretty distasteful. BUT hopefully, the English cuisine has its own good sides!

No one can deny that the tea time is the best moment of the day! With its English tea and biscuits, you’re sure to spend a DELICIOUS time!

Moreover, their legendary “fish & chips” is actually really good. I won’t eat that everyday but it’s fine, you know, not so horrible!!!

I could add so many other dishes, but I won’t, it would be too long. The only thing I’m going to add concerns their cookbooks… because YES, Ladies and Gentlemen, “these things” can absolutely be bought in England. Besides I bought some of them a few days ago, and after having tried a few recipes, I have to say that their cuisine is not bad, not bad at all!!!!

With this, I hope you change your mind about the English food 😉

And don’t forget, keep holding on to what you love & enjoy the ride of life 😉
