Dear (future) friend, dear Jamie,
“Life is one big road with lots of signs. So when you’re riding through the ruts, don’t complicate your mind. Flee from hate, mischief and jealousy. Don’t bury your thoughts, put your vision to reality. Wake Up and Live!” – Bob Marley
Or “Get Up and Try” as the new song of Pink tells it… 😉 That’s what I did. In a word, I took a chance and I didn’t miss that sign, the sign of a likely new friendship (was it from high above? How can I know? All I know is that it was well & truly here).
I didn’t know if I would get this interview; I didn’t know how everything was going to be; I didn’t know ANYTHING actually! But after the interview, I knew that I had just found a friend (it could have been totally different, but it was like that… and as I have probably already written it, when it comes to what you feel, there’s no explanation, is there?). And speaking of… it feels… strange but good; it feels like you’re going to live again, like all the bad had suddenly disappeared, it truly feels like you can breathe again!
And even if I don’t know a lot about your life, about your world and you don’t know a lot about mine neither… it’s just a matter of time, isn’t it?
The thing is, as one says it, we need to take the time and take the chance to become true friends. Well, let’s take that chance! “Wake Up and Live” or “Get Up and Try” (whatever you want); it doesn’t make any difference, but the idea’s here. If we don’t try to be those true friends, we’ll never know how it could have been, we’ll live with the what-ifs and the regrets… And what’s worse than a life full of regrets, full of what-ifs, a life that could have been different if only the chances were taken when in front of us, if only the signs were caught in time?
Can you hear this little voice inside of me? The one that shares my state of mind, my philosophy? Listen a bit closer and you’ll hear… ‘Stand up and fight for what you believe in!’
“In your life, I truly believe that you find people who can completely turn your world around. You tell them things that you’ve never shared (…) and they absorb everything you say and actually want to hear more. You share hopes for the future, dreams that will never come true, goals that were never achieved and the many disappointments life has thrown at you. When something wonderful happens, you can’t wait to tell them about it, knowing they will share in your excitement. They are not embarrassed to cry with you when you are hurting or laugh with you when you make a fool of yourself. Never do they hurt your feelings or make you feel like you are not good enough, but rather they build you up and show you the things about yourself that make you special and even beautiful. There is never any pressure, jealousy or competition but only a quiet calmness when they are around. You can be yourself and not worry about what they will think of you because they love you for who you are. The things that seem insignificant to most people such as a note, song or walk become invaluable treasures kept safe in your heart to cherish forever. Memories of your childhood come back and are so clear and vivid it’s like being young again. Colours seem brighter and more brilliant. Laughter seems part of daily life where before it was infrequent or didn’t exist at all. A phone call or two during the day helps to get you through a long day’s work and always brings a smile to your face. In their presence, there’s no need for continuous conversation, but you find you’re quite content in just having them nearby. Things that never interested you before become fascinating because you know they are important to these persons who are so special to you. (…). You open your heart knowing that there’s a chance it may be broken one day and in opening your heart, you experience a love and joy that you never dreamed possible. You find that being vulnerable is the only way to allow your heart to feel true pleasure that’s so real it scares you. You find strength in knowing you have a true friend (…). Life seems completely different, exciting and worthwhile. Your only hope and security is in knowing that they are a part of your life.” ― Bob Marley
Those people are the ones I call my friends.
So what do you say? What do you say to take that chance? What do you say to give it a chance? I think a true friendship is worth it, don’t you think?
This article has been kind of an open letter, but I’m sure lots of people have felt that way before, so…
With this, my darlings,
Keep holding on to what you love & enjoy the ride of life 😉
