THIS IS THE QUESTION! Or the question may also be “How do you want to be remembered?” J.K. Rowling answered : “As someone who did the best she could with the talent she had.”
This ought to be how everybody should reply, simply because no one can be sure of anything. No one knows who he or she is going to become, how he or she is going to act,… Life is full of surprises and it kind of prevents us from planing anything, because whatever you’ll plan it will be impeded!
Nevertheless, this is how we live. Gandhi once said “The future depends on what you do today”. We need to have plans, we need to foresee our future because it is too scary otherwise!!! And someone without goals is seriously depressed (and depressing as well !!!!)! So it’s good to have aims! But aren’t aims only dreams we’re trying to make come true? Actually I think they are and they will remain dreams until you do something to make them real.
I have to say that this question is very difficult and ambiguous at the same time. Some people may understand “What job do you want to have?”, some others “What kind of person to you want to be?”… etc.
But after considering it, I think that the second understanding is THE question we have to ask ourselves to really know WHO WE WANT TO BE because someway, the job we have chosen or the things we have done in life will show our personality and so our nature & values. This way, it can reveal the kind of person we truly are.
As far as I’m concerned, I don’t want to be connected to my studies, my future job or to my diverse achievements in life. I just want people to remember the person I am deep inside. Isn’t it what we all want? Honestly?
All I need to say now is “Follow your dreams and do what you think is the best”. This quote sums up quite well this article, it may also be clearer than what I wrote :p
“What are you going to do with your life?” In one way or another it seemed that people had been asking her this forever; teachers, her parents, friends at three in the morning, but the question had never seemed this pressing and still she was no nearer an answer… “Live each day as if it’s your last’, that was the conventional advice, but really, who had the energy for that? What if it rained or you felt a bit glandy? It just wasn’t practical. Better by far to be good and courageous and bold and to make difference. Not change the world exactly, but the bit around you. Cherish your friends, stay true to your principles, live passionately and fully and well. Experience new things. Love and be loved, if you ever get the chance.”
